What is a GEO score?
A GEO score is a 0-100 measure of whether a page is structured so generative engines can recognize, quote, and attribute your brand. It is not a Google rank and it is not a ChatGPT mention count.
Generative Engine Optimization (GEO) targets engines that synthesize answers — ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Copilot — rather than a ten-blue-link SERP. Those systems cite sources they can map to a stable entity and quote as a self-contained claim. SEO Evolution Analyzer scores that readiness from HTML: JSON-LD sameAs links, numbers, blockquotes, Open Graph tags, outbound citations, HTTPS, hreflang, and how often the brand token appears in body copy.
BandMasterBD.com moved from 32/100 to 100 on AEO and AIO after applying the AI-generated fix pack; GEO still uses the same pass / warn / fail weights. Readiness on the home scan is a 25% blend of AEO, AIO, GEO, and crawlability. This page isolates the GEO column so you can work entity and quotability gaps without mixing in FAQ schema or author markup.
How does SEO Evolution Analyzer calculate GEO?
Pass earns full weight, warn earns 50%, fail earns 0%, then the checker divides earned weight by total weight and rounds to 0-100. sameAs is the heaviest GEO signal at weight 20.
| Signal | Weight | Pass rule |
|---|---|---|
| sameAs entity links | 20 | 5 or more URLs in Organization.sameAs |
| Statistical content density | 16 | 5 or more percentages, dollar figures, n= counts, or year-stamped studies |
| Open Graph + Twitter cards | 10 | og:title, og:image, and twitter:card all present |
| Quotation-worthy blocks | 8 | At least one <blockquote> |
| Outbound authority citations | 8 | 3 or more non-social outbound HTTPS links |
| HTTPS, hreflang, brand mentions | 6 each | HTTPS required; hreflang warned if missing; brand token 3+ times in body |
The formula is documented on the learn page. Citation tests on the AI citation checker are a different metric: n=4 to 6 buyer-intent prompts per engine, reported 0-100%.
Why do sameAs links weigh more than other GEO signals?
sameAs links tell engines that Wikipedia, LinkedIn, Crunchbase, GitHub, and similar profiles are the same organization. Five or more sameAs URLs pass; one to four warn; zero fails. That mapping is how a model attaches a mention to your brand instead of a similarly named product.
SEO Evolution Analyzer reads sameAs arrays from JSON-LD Organization (and related) blocks. Wikipedia and Crunchbase are called out in the detail string when present, but they are not extra points — count is the pass rule. Put the same brand name in footer, title, and body so the geo-brand-mentions check (weight 6, pass at 3+ mentions of the registrable domain token) can reinforce the entity.
Ranking tells crawlers where you sit in a SERP. sameAs tells a generative engine who you are when it writes the answer.
Profiles should resolve. Dead sameAs URLs still count in HTML but they do not help retrieval. Keep Organization schema sitewide; this checker does not invent Knowledge Graph APIs — it scores what is on the page.
How many statistics does a page need to pass GEO?
Five or more statistical references pass. Two to four warn. Zero or one fails. The analyzer matches percentages, dollar amounts, n= sample sizes, and year-stamped study or survey phrases.
Engines quote numbers because a quantified claim is extractable. Invented stats fail later when a citation test or a journalist checks the source. Cite primary research: schema.org, Google Search Central, and the llms.txt specification. Pair numbers with outbound links (pass at 3+ non-social HTTPS hrefs) so the geo-outbound signal can pass with the statistics signal.
Wrap a unique finding in a blockquote. One <blockquote> is enough to pass quotation-worthy blocks (weight 8); zero warns. Marketing slogans in a quote tag still count in HTML but they do not help a model that is looking for a named framework or a measured result.
Does Open Graph metadata affect generative engines?
Yes as an entity-consistency signal. The GEO checker requires og:title, og:image, and twitter:card together to pass. Partial metadata warns. None fails.
When a URL is shared, crawlers and some retrieval pipelines reuse OG tags. Missing og:image is the most common warn on otherwise complete marketing sites. HTTPS is a hard fail if the final URL is http: — every engine treats that as a trust gap. hreflang is warn-only when absent; add it if you ship multilingual GEO, ignore it if the site is English-only and you accept the warn.
Why can GEO be high while citation rate is 0%?
Citation rate measures whether GPT-4o, Claude, or another configured engine names your brand on a prompt set. GEO score only measures HTML. Training-data recall and third-party mentions sit outside the rule-based scan.
That split is intentional. Fix crawlability first (blocked GPTBot / ClaudeBot / PerplexityBot / Google-Extended caps readiness at 40). Then raise GEO with sameAs, numbers, and quotes. Then run the live citation test on the home analyzer. Re-testing weekly on an unchanged page mostly measures noise; monthly after a structural change is the cadence described on the GEO guide.
How do you raise a weak GEO score this week?
Add five sameAs profile URLs, five true statistics with outbound sources, one insight blockquote, complete OG tags, HTTPS, and three in-body brand mentions. Those checks are the entire GEO column.
- Confirm Organization JSON-LD includes a sameAs array of five live profile URLs.
- Put original or cited numbers in the body; link at least three primary sources that are not social hosts.
- Wrap one unique claim in a blockquote and finish og:title, og:image, and twitter:card.
- Say the brand name in body copy at least three times, matching the registrable domain token.
- Re-run this GEO score checker, then open the full analyzer for an AI fix plan if crawlability still fails.
Compare GEO with AEO and AIO on the GEO vs AEO vs AIO guide. Automate the same scan through the hosted MCP server or REST API.
Should you put llms.txt in the GEO column?
No. llms.txt is scored under crawlability, not GEO. Missing it costs crawlability points and never fails the GEO framework number. Add it anyway so GPTBot and ClaudeBot get a short site map.
Place /llms.txt at the domain root with a summary and key URLs, following llmstxt.org. Then keep GEO focused on entity and quotability. The learn page and GEO guide spell out that split so teams do not file “add llms.txt” as a GEO ticket.
How often should you re-check a GEO score?
Re-check after you ship sameAs, statistics, or quote blocks — not every morning. The GEO column is HTML. It only moves when markup or copy moves. Daily scans of an unchanged page measure nothing.
After a structural change, wait for crawl and indexation before you treat a live citation test as the verdict. Four to eight weeks is the window described on the GEO guide. Use this free checker the same day you deploy to confirm the rule-based signals passed. Use the citation checker later for ChatGPT and Perplexity mention rate. Keep HTTPS on; a single http:// final URL fails geo-https at weight 6 and every engine treats it as a trust gap. Brand mentions must appear in body text three times using the registrable domain token — footer-only logos do not count.
Which outbound links count as authority citations?
HTTPS links to a different host count, except facebook.com, twitter.com, x.com, instagram.com, linkedin.com, youtube.com, and tiktok.com. Three or more pass. One or two warn. Zero fails. Cite studies, docs, and data.
Wikipedia and Crunchbase belong in sameAs, not as your only outbound citations. Link schema.org, Search Central, government datasets, and peer-reviewed numbers you actually used. Relative links and same-host hrefs are internal (an AIO signal), not GEO outbound. After you add three primary sources, re-run this GEO score checker so geo-outbound and geo-statistics can pass together. Then compare AEO extractability on the AEO checker and Overview attribution on the AIO checker.
hreflang is warn-only. Add it for multilingual GEO; skip it on an English-only site and accept the warn. HTTPS is not optional. Open Graph needs og:title, og:image, and twitter:card together. Partial OG is the most common remaining warn after sameAs is fixed. Complete those three meta tags, re-scan, then stop chasing GEO until you ship a real entity or data change.
Frequently asked questions
What is a GEO score?
A GEO score is a 0-100 rating of Generative Engine Optimization signals on a public page. SEO Evolution Analyzer weights sameAs entity links, statistical density, quotation blocks, Open Graph tags, outbound citations, HTTPS, hreflang, and brand mentions.
How is the GEO score calculated?
Each GEO signal has a weight. Pass earns the full weight, warn earns half, fail earns zero. The checker normalizes earned weight to 0-100. sameAs links weigh 20 and statistics weigh 16; HTTPS weighs 6.
Is a GEO score the same as a citation rate?
No. GEO score is on-page readiness. Citation rate is how often an engine names your brand on buyer-intent prompts. A page can score high on GEO and still show 0% citations if training data has not recalled the brand yet.
What GEO signals does this checker look for?
It checks Organization sameAs count (pass at 5+), statistical references (pass at 5+), blockquotes, complete og:title plus og:image plus twitter:card, three or more outbound authority links, HTTPS, hreflang, and three or more brand-name mentions in body text.
Does blocking GPTBot change my GEO score?
Bot blocks live in crawlability, not inside the GEO framework score. If GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot, or Google-Extended is blocked, the headline readiness score is capped at 40 even when GEO looks strong.
Is the GEO score checker free?
Yes. Paste a public URL and run Analyze free with no signup. The scan uses the same /api/analyze path as the home analyzer. Live citation tests on the full analyzer consume AI quota; the rule-based GEO score does not.
